Soul Sisters
The Soul Sisters Dragonboat Team began in 2004 when the Dragonflyers realized they had enough local interest in this sport to start another team. Our sister team was formed and we all shared the boat. Our new team, the Soul Sisters, was made up entirely of new members (with the exception of the coach and steersperson coming out with us a few times to get us started).
With a boat full of rookies, we struggled to learn our stroke and timing. One thing we had was a whole lot of spirit and a bunch of fun! We even won a gold medal and the best boat time in Kelowna our first year. The next year we competed in Kelowna and came in 6th out 48 women's teams.
In the last 4 years we have seen members come and go, as they realize the team commitment. We practice at least twice a week starting in April and we usually race once a month from May to September. Entry fees to these races is expensive so fundraising is shared by the whole team. As our main fundraiser, we host The Cultus Lake Dragonboat Festival iin August and members from both CLDB Club teams work together to make this annual event a success.
For many years we have found that more than half of our team is working in the field of education and consequently there is a positive learning environment on the boat at all times. We are always willing to try something new and give it our best shot. We paddle hard, dig deep, give everything we've got and get great results. It's all about having fun and oh yeah, "Looking Good!".
